History
Founded in Germany in 1951 by Heinz Schürmann, Schüco started out with just six employees working in a back yard – producing shop windows, rolling grilles and awnings. As innovative façades and windows made from modern, light aluminium became increasingly popular throughout the 1950s, the company expanded rapidly. Between 1955 and 1963, they opened new branches in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Stuttgart.
Schüco is known as a company ahead of its time – as early as 1970, a system-based approach for supplying aluminium windows, doors and large sliding systems that offered thermal insulation put the emphasis on climate protection and the conservation of resources, while meeting environmental and noise protection requirements.
During the 1980s, Schüco served an increasingly global market, with licences in Europe. They also launched the first approved fire protection system for doors and windows and the ground-breaking Iskotherm aluminium window system with thermally-insulated profiles, for residential properties and renovation projects. In 1989, they entered the PVCU windows market.
In 1990, for the first time in their history, turnover surpassed the magical one billion deutschmark threshold. Schüco’s rapid growth has continued into the 21st century, expanding into South America, the USA and China – with three divisions: solar, PVCU and metal.
To replace the Royal system, innovations in aluminium led to the launch of the Schüco AWS/ADS window and door system in 2008. This was followed by temperature-control Schüco products in 2009 that were designed to combat global warming using pioneering energy-efficient technology.
This led to the concept of the Schüco Energy3 building in 2011, with the energy being self-sufficient – thanks to networking windows, façades and doors, the building produces more energy than it uses. Today, Schüco’s long history of excellence in the doors and windows manufacturing sector means it’s a trusted partner that is synonymous with excellence, high quality and admirable environmental practices.
